Xan Schlegel

owner

Xan grew up on the West River and has been involved with sailing and the marine industry for his entire life. After graduating from the College of Charleston and spending a year sailing singlehanded around the Caribbean, Xan moved back to the West River in the summer of 2016 aboard his CS 36, Atlas. Since that time, he has resided at Chalk Point Marine – first aboard Atlas for two years, and then in the marina’s cottage for the past 6 years. Xan is currently following in his family’s footsteps working at Hartge Yacht Yard as Service Manager.

In the summer you can find Xan racing on Wednesday nights on his family's Melges 24, Bufflehead, or cruising the river with Madde and Dodger on his skiff, Alma.

Madde Vachon

co-manager

Madde grew up on the water in Scituate, Massachusetts, and is a lifelong sailor. Madde began teaching sailing at the age of 14 and naturally transitioned into a sailing program director at 19. After graduating college, she pursued her captain’s license and has since amassed thousands of offshore sailing miles. On a whim, she decided to move to Annapolis aboard her S&S Catalina 38, Syzygy, in the Fall of 2020. She is currently the Operations Manager at Severn Sailing Association in Annapolis, continuing her passion of teaching kids to sail.
